Disaster Risk Reduction in Urban Scenario: Challenges for South Asia
The scale of urbanisation in South Asia has already surpassed the provision of infrastructure. The preparedness to cope up and address emergencies are highly short of the desired requirements. Climate change and its impact is further dragging cities into new vortex of risk. The talk will uncover the key challenges in South Asia which need to be part of the thinking and practice of all sections of the society in the region.

Prof. Santosh Kumar is a disaster risk reduction, policy planning and capacity development expert with 25 years of experience. He is an experienced hand in designing, planning and implementing mitigation and long term disaster recovery plans and projects. His contributions include drafting Hygo Framework for Action, advisory engagements with Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and other key initiatives lead by the UN, World Bank and various international organizations.
Mr.Kamal Kishore is a member in the National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India. He has several years of experience in disaster reduction strategies both at national and international levels. Before joining NDMA, Mr. Kishore was Programme Advisor, UNDP based in New York.
