Palak Mahanot is a finance professional. Her interests are in the field of data, finance and citizen participation initiatives and she has over 3 years of experience in Financial Management sector. She was previously associated with Uber as a Business Analyst where she worked with the Community Operations Team and analysed Support Cost for India operations. Prior to that, she worked as an Investment Banking Analyst with Goldman Sachs. Palak has cleared NSE Academy Certification in Financial Markets Module. She plans to continue working as a financial data analyst in social impact sector. Palak Mahanot is an alumna of Indian Institute of Management, Indore and Shri Ram College of Commerce. She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Bachelors in Commerce (Honours).

The Fellowship offered a unique blend of hard and soft skills to me as a professional. Guidance and mentorship of more than 45 industry experts and senior government officials helped me in understanding the nuances of the Smart Cities Mission, bottom-up planning, citizen engagement initiatives and government functioning. The fellowship gave us a chance to work on something unique. We analyzed huge data sets and could provide useful inferences to the Municipal Corporation. The fellowship allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and face inhibitions as we pitched our solution to senior government officials and implemented our project with limited resources. The fellowship maintained a start-up like environment under the guidance of the Mission Director of Smart Cities Mission who envisioned us as 12 startups working in the Urban Sector. We learned a lot about ‘frugal innovation’ and started working with a hands-on approach. This has opened up avenues of entrepreneurship or joining Startups in the Urban space for all the fellows.
